Chicagoan Art Paul gave Playboy its distinctly American look, from the magazine’s award-winning layout to that iconic bunny. But Paul’s design sensibility has European roots. In the late 1940s, he trained at the Institute of Design, known as the “Chicago Bauhaus.”

Graphic designer James Goggin is recorded describing Paul’s aesthetic journey from mid-century to the present on November 1, 2014, presented as part of the 25th Anniversary Chicago Humanities Festival Fallfest: Journeys.
