Two Chicago Curators Explore Each Other's Exhibitions

The second video in the editorial partnership between Art Design Chicago and Sixty Inches from Center features an extended conversation between Lisa Stone and Stano Grezdo, each a curator of an Art Design Chicago exhibition on view now at different institutions: Chicago Calling: Art Against the Flow at Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, and LIONS: Founding Years of UIMA in Chicago at the Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art.

In the video, the two curators visit both institutions and browse each other’s exhibitions, trading questions while discussing topics such as the stories behind individual works, the curatorial process, artists’ relationships to changing neighborhoods, and more.

“Sometimes there’s no reason to explain something with words – it’s just ‘this piece needs to be there’. I don’t know why, but it needs to be there.” – Stano Grezdo

Watch On the Real’s video below and read the accompanying story on Sixty’s website.

LIONS: Founding Years of UIMA in Chicago closes on September 30, while Chicago Calling: Art Against the Flow will be on view through January 6, 2019.
