Arte Diseño Xicágo: A Neighborhood Fiesta in the Heart of Pilsen

All are invited for a vibrant afternoon celebrating the diverse stories of creativity on Chicago’s West Side. Inspired by the National Museum of Mexican Art’s exhibition Arte Diseño Xicágo: Mexican Inspiration from the World's Columbian Exposition to the Civil Rights Era exploring the contributions of Mexican and Mexican-American artists and designers in Chicago, the fiesta offers a wide array of performances, workshops, and much more throughout the day, including:
12:30 p.m. Guided tour of Arte Diseño Xicágo (in Spanish)
1 p.m. Free Street Theatre’s “Meet Juanito Doe”, a performance based on the experiences of Chicago’s Mexican-American and immigrant communities, followed by a storytelling workshop
1 p.m. Live musical performance by You Are Here, with emcee Pablo Serrano
2:30 p.m. Guided tour of Arte Diseño Xicágo (in English)
3 p.m. Video screening: Everyone’s a Designer/Everyone’s Design
4 p.m. Live musical performance by Súbele, with emcee Pablo Serrano
4 p.m. Video screening: A Casa Vieja, Puertas Nuevas: Los Early Days en Casa Aztlán
Plus:
• Art activities and demonstrations featuring puppet-making, monoprinting, fiber arts, weaving, creative selfies, and much more—led by Art Design Chicago partners Chicago Public Library, the Chinese American Museum of Chicago, Illinois Humanities, Intuit: The Center for Intuitive and Outsider Art, Jane Addams Hull-House Museum, and Ukrainian Institute of Modern Art
• A self-guided neighborhood mural hunt through the neighborhood of Pilsen. Visitors will discover beautiful, historically significant murals by local artists Hector Duarte, Alejandro Medina, and Jeff Zimmerman.
• Tianguis open-air craft market featuring 10+ vendors
• Printmaking with members of the local collective Instituto Gráfico de Chicago and the UIC Latino Cultural Center
Attendees are also invited to bring lunch or snacks and make use of picnic tables in the surrounding park area.
