Community Binding: Participatory Arts Bookbinding Workshop

Jane Addams Hull-House Museum

800 South Halsted Street, Chicago, Illinois 60607

Join the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum for a free, all-ages bookbinding workshop led by Regin Igloria, founder of North Branch Projects, an organization that uses book-binding, collective story-writing, and community archiving practices as forms of community-building. This program is also presented in conjunction with the exhibition Participatory Arts: Crafting Social Change on view at the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum through May 3, 2019.

In this workshop, participants create hand-bound books from simple and recycled materials, inspired by Ellen Gates Starr (1859—1940), co-founder of the Hull-House settlement who established the original Hull-House Bookbindery (ca.1899), advocated for fair labor practices, and championed craft. This program includes refreshments.

This event is free and open to the public.
