How Do You Throw a Pot? A Participatory Arts Ceramic Workshop

Jane Addams Hull-House Museum

800 South Halsted Street, Chicago, Illinois 60607

Join Jane Addams Hull-House Museum for a ceramics workshop inspired by the Hull-House Kilns, an arts program offered at the settlement from 1927 to 1937 that provided the neighboring Mexican American community an alternative to factory labor and an outlet for artistic and cultural expression. Nicole Marroquin, Associate Professor of Education at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, leads this hands-on introduction to ceramics in which participants also discuss how representation, identity, and community building are tied to sculptural practices. No prior ceramics experience required.

This program is presented as one in a series of four hands-on artist workshops offered in conjunction with the Jane Addams Hull-House Museum’s symposium Participatory Arts: The Legacy of Chicago's Hull-House Artists.

This event is free and open to the public. This venue is wheelchair accessible.
